The Inspiration and Mission of High Sierra Pharms

At High Sierra Pharms, our inspiration and mission are deeply rooted in our mascot, Sailor, the green wing macaw. This company fuels our passion project, Sailor's Sanctuary, New Mexico's first cannabis-funded avian rescue. Birds are among the most abused, abandoned, and neglected pets, with the illegal pet market expanding rapidly. More than 80% of large birds end up in "rescues", which entail open floorplans lined with cages. Birds symbolize freedom and resilience, qualities we cherish and strive to protect. Whether it be turkeys, emus, macaws, or chickens, Sailor's Sanctuary is a home for all things feathered (and not).

Rose's love for birds began with her mom Kathy, the original "chicken lady" that periodically brought home birds in need of sanctuary. This passion has grown into a lifelong commitment to avian rescue and rehabilitation. Rose has more than 15 years of experience in rescuing and rehabilitating various avian species, many native to New Mexico. With High Sierra Pharms, she aims to create the first self-sustaining avian rescue. We grow much of our own food and plan to reclaim and reestablish our community food sources, because we understand how deeply our food contributes to our health and overall well-being. We prioritize the mind, body, and spirit of each bird, catering to their veterinary needs, unique nutritional demands, enrichment, rehabilitation, and providing an independent and forever home that will endure long after we're gone. Birds are some of the longest-living creatures on this planet, and this company was formed to ensure that our rescue always has the monetary support it needs.
